NFA secures enough buffer stocks through local palay procurement

The National Food Authority gives importance to the procurement of palay from the local farmers for the consumption of the Filipinos.

NFA is tasked to procure palay locally and maintain the optimal level of buffer stocks at all times in pursuant to Republic Act 11203 or the Rice Tariffication Law.

As of November 10, NFA Capiz which consists of the provinces of Aklan and Capiz already procured a total of 230, 196 bags of clean and dry palay.

Capiz warehouses bought 128,258 bags of good quality palay stocks from individual farmers and associations for 2021.

Aklan grains center, on the other hand, has procured 101, 938 bags of palay.

For stocks inventory, there are 96,095 bags of rice stored in Capiz warehouses in case it is needed for relief operations, lean months, and other rice distribution transactions.

The NFA Capiz branch manager Cashmere Gemarino assured that the province has sufficient rice stocks and that his office will continue to buy clean and dry palay at P19.00 per kilogram.*
