NFA’s palay procurement hits 230,196 bags

A total of 230,196 bags of clean and dry palay were procured by the National Food Authority (NFA) Capiz Branch from the farmers of Capiz and Aklan provinces from January to November 10 this year.

The total number is composed of 128,258 bags of good quality palay stocks from individuals and organizations/associations bought through the various NFA warehouses in Capiz and 101,938 bags through the Aklan Grains Center.

NFA Capiz acting branch manager Cashmere Gemarino assured that the province has sufficient rice stocks and the local palay procurement will continue to buy clean and dry palay at P19.00 per kilogram.

The NFA still maintains the standard quality requirements like a maximum of 14 percent moisture content, not less than 95 percent purity content and infestation – free palay deliveries to ensure that its palay stocks are in good quality when milled and sold to consumers.

“There are 96,095 bags of rice equivalent stored in the branch’s warehouses in case needed for relief operations, lean months and other rice distribution transactions,” said NFA Branch acting Public Information Officer Salve Mae Agustin.

Under Republic Act 11203 or the Rice Tariffication Law, the NFA is mandated to maintain a sufficient level of rice buffer stocks to be sourced from local farmers through procurement intended for emergency/calamity operations. (PIA Capiz)
