OCD-6 taps socmed to intensify disaster prep campaign

The Office of Civil Defense in Western Visayas (OCD-6) on Nov. 5 launched its Regional Emergency and Disaster Management (RED Alert) Program to intensify its campaign on various disaster risk reduction management (DRRM) programs amid this health pandemic.

RED Alert is a weekly program that will air every Wednesday from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. via the Civil Defense 6 Facebook page.

“We would like to strengthen information dissemination at the local level while we are still under the pandemic. We would like that our connection with them in terms of information on DRRM and stories on resiliency will continue,” Cindy Ferrer, information officer and spokesperson for the OCD-6, said in an interview.

She added every program will highlight three major topics to include the activities of the OCD, ongoing trainings, reviews of DRRM plans of local government units; feature activities of agencies that are members of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council; and stories of resiliency and best practices on the ground.

“We know that they (local DRRM offices) have best practices during this pandemic and as well as experience from previous years in dealing with disasters. We wanted to have them showcased in our program,” she added.

Ferrer said that it will be an interactive program where viewers can ask questions from their guests and suggest possible topics.

In times of calamities and disasters, the program will disseminate situational reports as to the status or impact to communities for the public to know the extent of the calamity.

“We start with FB page but we look forward to engage more media in the future to widen our reach,” she added. (PNA)
