Over P680-M released for WV health workers

The Department of Health in Western Visayas Center (DOH WV) has transferred to local governments units (LGUs) and private hospitals in the region some PHP684.373 million funds for the Special Risk Allowance (SRA) of health workers directly catering to or in contact with patients of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

In a virtual presser recently, Christine Abuzo, accountant III of the DOH WV Center for Health Development (DOH WV CHD), said PHP462.64 million have been transferred from Sept. 1 to Dec. 17, 2020 and PHP221.733 million from Dec. 18, 2020 to April 30, 2021 for the LGUs’ and private hospitals SRA and hazard pay.

While she did not give the breakdown of the number of health workers in the public and private hospitals, she said that there are “hundreds of recipients”.

DOH WV CHD Human Resource Management Officer (HRMO) Genevieve Cadornigara said their office facilitates and processes the release of SRA as long as the LGUs’ and private hospitals’ submit documents that include a list of eligible health workers, memorandum of agreement (MOA) with DOH, and resolution from the Sangguniang Bayan.

“I think the SRA has been released to Iloilo province,” she said, adding that Iloilo City is yet to get its fund.

The SRA not exceeding PHP5,000 per month is given to public health care workers who physically report for work in public hospitals, laboratories, or medical and quarantine facilities and health workers of DOH-certified private hospitals.

“We at the Department of Health Western Visayas, we facilitate and give what is due to our health care workers,” she added.

In a press statement on Monday, the regional office said the delay in the release of the benefit could be due to a lack of documentary requirements.

The health pandemic has also affected some of their personnel, thus hampering their processing of documents. (PNA)
