P100K up for barangays with best COVID response

ROXAS CITY — Barangays in this city will have a chance to receive P100,000 for its response to curb the spread of coronavirus disease.

The city government of Roxas has spearheaded a contest, dubbed as COVID-19 Unified Response for Effective Strategy (CURES), wherein villages with the best response and strategies in the fight against the virus will win up to P100,000.

“We are looking for innovative responses and strategies in mitigating the spread of COVID-19,” Mayor Ronnie Dadivas said during the launching of the program recently.

He said on Facebook that the program was intended to encourage and inspire the barangay officials to put an effort into their COVID-19 initiatives

“Ang CURES, isa ka pamaagi agud aton maganyat kag hatagan inspirasyon ang mga barangay officials nga maghulag kag maghimu sang mga inisyatibo nga mapangapinan ang ila nasakupan nga barangay kapareho sang pag-implementar sang face mask/shield ordinance, physical distancing, pagdigamo sa mga LSI (locally-stranded individuals) kag madamo pa nga inisyatibo,” the mayor said.

Dadivas added that complacency is the biggest enemy in the fight against COVID-19.

John Ace Azarcon, director of Department of the Interior and Local Government-Capiz, said that the department is excited about the competition.

The city government added COVID-19 mitigation as a focus of the Excellence in Local Governance (EXCELL) awards, he said.

Prizes for the competition are P100,000 for the first place, P50,000 for the second place, P10,000 for the third place, and P5,000 for the fourth to 10th place.

The winners will be judged by a committee.* (with Edalyn Acta)
