Palomar wants IPs to regain ancestral domain

 

ROXAS CITY—Tapaz Mayor Roberto Palomar said he wants the indigenous people (IP) of Tapaz to get back their ancestral lands.

“Gusto kong tapusin ang problema n’yo. Tulungan n’yo si SB Santiago. Tulungan n’yo kami. Magtulungan tayo para magkaroon na kayo ng Certificate of Ancestral Domain Title,” Palomar said.

Palomar said this during the Pan-ayanon Bukidnon Indigenous Peoples (IP) Day held at the Tapaz Civic Center Oct. 28, per Tapaz Municipal Information and Population Office Facebook page.

Tapaz is also the first town in Capiz to have a representative in the Sangguniang Bayan from the IP in the person of Vergelio Santiago Jr.

Anchored on the theme, “Correcting historical Injustices For Indigenous Peoples Rights and Welfare, the celebration featured forums and discussions.

National Commission on Indigenous Peoples Regional Director Agosto Maglunsod led the discussions along with with Atty. Hermie Jun Toledo; Atty. Princess May Oral and CDO Rubie Capada.

Tapaz has the most number of IP members in the province.
