After the first positive case of measles this year, the Capiz Provincial Health Office (PHO) urged
parents to get their children immunized.
“We strongly encourage parents and guardians to have their eligible children vaccinated at the
nearest local health unit,” said Dr. Ramon Alex Nolasco, provincial health chief.
This is following confirmation from the Department of Health (DOH) that a one-year-old boy
from Barangay Tanque, Roxas City was infected with measles.
“Vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent measles,” Nolasco said.
The PHO is coordinating with the health offices of Roxas City and other municipalities to
strengthen immunization against measles.
“Measures are being implemented to address gaps in immunization coverage,” said Nolasco in a
public advisory.
The PHO is also urging parents and guardians to seek medical attention if their children
experience fever, rash, runny nose, cough, and conjunctivitis (pinkish eye).
