The first gun ban violator for the election period in Capiz province was arrested in Pontevedra.
The Pontevedra Municipal Police Station (MPS) seized from the suspect a homemade revolver without a serial number and three live rounds of ammunition.
The suspect was also caught with four sachets of suspected shabu during a police operation last January 12, 2025.
Police Colonel Albert Tapulao, chief of the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO), lauded the Pontevedra MPS for arresting the suspect for both illegal possession of firearms and illegal drug possession.
Atty. Salud Milagros Villanueva of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in Capiz reminded the public that the election gun ban will last for five months or until June 11.
Carrying of firearms and deadly weapons outside of residence or place of business is prohibited unless authorized by the COMELEC’s Committee on the Ban on Firearms and Security Concerns (CBFSC).
