THE total population of Capiz as of May 1, 2020, is 804,952, which is based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH) conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
The official population counts by province, city/municipality, and barangay were declared official by President
Rodrigo Duterte according to Proclamation No. 1179 dated July 6, 2021.
Capiz’ population in 2020 increased by 43,568 or 5.72 percent from 761,384 in 2015. This translates to an annual population growth rate (PGR) of 1.18 percent, higher than the 1.08 percent registered from 2010 to 2015.
Roxas City registered the highest count with 179,292 persons or 22.27 percent of the province’s population.
Tapaz was the most populous municipality with 54,423 followed by Pontevedra with 49,725, Dumarao with 49,506 and Panay with 48,890. The least populated municipality was Sapian with 26,697.
Ivisan was the fastest-growing municipality in Capiz with an annual population growth rate of 1.56 percent from 2015 to 2020.
Roxas City and Maayon came next with identical 1.50 percent PGR followed by Dumarao (1.48 percent), Pontevedra (1.45 percent), Tapaz (1.25 percent), and Panay (1.24 percent). Cuartero posted the lowest PGR of 0.45 percent.
The 2020 CPH is the 15th Census of Population and 7th Census of Housing undertaken since 1903. The census-taking
started on September 1 and was extended until October 31, 2020 due to different restrictions brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.
A total of 1,071 personnel were hired by the PSA to complete the house-to-house interview strictly adhering to
health and safety protocols. (PR)
