A road project in the Municipality of President Roxas funded by a project under the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is boosting accessibility in remote barangays.
The road project funded by DSWD’s Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) in Purok 3 of Barangay Manoling has made an impact in the local community, particularly benefiting farmers.
The newly constructed road has revolutionized how the residents transport their goods, access essential services, and navigate their daily lives.
According to Nida Valencia, KALAHI-CIDSS Barangay Development Council-Technical Working Group chairperson, the road improvement has been a game-changer for the community.
With the new road, four-wheeled vehicles can now easily navigate the area, significantly reducing travel time and facilitating the transportation of essential agricultural products such as sugarcane and corn.
Before the completion of the road, residents faced numerous challenges in transporting their goods to the market.
Valencia mentioned that the poor state of the road complicated the transportation of goods and posed significant risks during emergencies.
To address the challenges, residents filled potholes with rocks to make the road passable. This community effort was essential to ensure that agricultural products could be transported without trucks getting stuck in the muddy conditions.
Valencia recounted instances where patients needed to be carried to safe ground because ambulances could not access their location due to poor road conditions.
The newly completed road risks have been reduced, allowing residents to access essential services more easily.
The community is deeply grateful for the KALAHI-CIDSS program, which provided the necessary support to improve their lives through this infrastructure development.
Valencia said the completed road enhances accessibility and safety for residents, allowing them to reach their destinations more quickly and easily. (DSWD6/Clarizza Firmalino)
