PWDs to venture into backyard vegie prod’n

THE Federations of Persons with Disability in Pontevedra, Ivisan and Tapaz towns received vegetable seedlings from the Capiz provincial government in time for the 43rd National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week celebration.

PWD Provincial Federation president Nitz Bucayan said that the seedlings will be used by the PWDs in keeping themselves productive amid the pandemic.

“This disability of a person is not a hindrance to achieve his or her dreams,” she said, stressing that they should not dwell on what their disabilities are but be thankful to God for what they have that they may use in attaining their goals.

There are about 15,194 registered PWDs in Capiz.

Aside from the vegetable seedlings, the provincial government is also providing the PWD sector with assistive devices and some other needs amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The week-long celebration with the theme “Kalusugan at Kaunlaran ng Pilipinong May Kapansanan, Isulong sa Gitna ng Pandemya” focuses on the health and economic empowerment of PWDs.

It highlights the nation’s efforts towards disability prevention and rehabilitation leading to the effective integration of persons with disabilities into the mainstream of society as mandated under RA 7277 otherwise known as the “Magna Carta for Disabled Persons.” (PIA-Capiz)
