The Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital (RMPH) is still waiting to transfer to the new site in Brgy. Lanot, Roxas City pending its approval of license to operate by the Department of Health (DOH).
RMPH Hospital Chief Dr. Florencio Luching said the Capiz Provincial Government initially scheduled to transfer its operation from the Arnaldo Boulevard site to Lanot site by end of October 2026.
“Ugaling ang lisensya ginahulat pa namon sa DOH. Indi kami maka-transfer kon wala lisensya (We are still waiting for the license from the DOH. We cannot transfer without a license),” Luching said.
Luching added that the DOH license is also necessary so that patients can avail benefits from Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth).
The new facility is expected to accommodate more patients, although its initial operating capacity will depend on the areas cleared for use and the services authorized under its DOH license.
The transfer is part of the provincial government’s plan to rehabilitate the aging RMPH building, where deteriorating ceilings and electrical wiring, as well as flooding on the ground floor during heavy rains, have raised concerns about the facility’s condition.
Luching clarified that RMPH would not close permanently. Its main hospital operations are intended to resume at the old site after the necessary reconstruction and rehabilitation.
Meanwhile, the transition of RMPH into Capiz Medical Center (CMC) is still in the works. Once the transition is complete, the hospital will be under DOH. (Vinz Deocampo photo)
