Roxas City rice retailersgroup thanks PBBM for cash aid

EACH of the 29 licensed small rice retailers in the province, mostly from the city, received P15,000.00
cash assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) during a payout distribution, on Sept. 14, at the Paseo Del Rio, in Roxas City.

“Our heartfelt thanks to the national government especially to President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. for the cash assistance which will help us defray our losses in complying with his Executive Order No. 39,” said Roxas City Cereals Association (RCCA) president Edilberto Cambe in Hiligaynon.

The EO puts the price of regular milled rice at P41.00 per kilo and well-milled rice at P45.00 each kilogram.

The retailer’s group based at the Teodoro Arcenas Trade Center (TATC) here was also among the first in the region to publicly announce compliance with the mandatory imposition of a rice price cap after a series of consultations and dialogue initiated by the Department of Trade and Industry, Department Agriculture, and Provincial Price Coordinating
Council (PPCC).

Cambe also noted that the price of rice in the market will eventually go down with the onset of harvest season in the province.

“Even if the price ceiling is lifted, the price of rice will
go down at the height of the harvest season. It may be even lower than P41.00 and P45.00 as long as sufficient rice supply will be locally available,” he added.

Based on the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist
(OPA) monitoring, the harvest season has already started early this September but this will redound to the prices by the third to last week of the month. (PIA Capiz)
