Roxas City celebrated its 73 rd Charter Day this weekend.
No less than Mayor Ronnie Dadivas led the various activities to commemorate the
cityhood of the capital of Capiz province.
“Ululupod kita sa pagsaulog sang Roxas City Day nga puno sang pagpasalamat
kag paglaum sa tanan nga may daku nga kontribusyon sa pag-umwad sang aton
pinalangga nga syudad (Let us join together in celebrating Roxas City Day with
gratefulness and hope that there are big contributions for the development of our
beloved city),” said Dadivas.
“Magbuligay kita sa pagtrabaho para matuman ang aton handum nga Bigger,
Better and Brighter Roxas City (Let us work together to achieve our goal of a
Bigger, Better and Brighter Roxas City),” added Dadivas.
The Charter of the City of Roxas was enacted on 1951. The city is named after
President Manuel Acuña Roxas, its most illustrious son
No national dignitaries were invited for the three-day celebration as the Dadivas
administration wanted to focus on highlighting the best of the city and its people.
Representing the Roxas clan was Paolo Roxas, the grandson of the president and
son of former senator Mar Roxas.
The day-time activities from May 10-12 were also simple as the city government
wanted to avoid incidents related to the continuous heat wave.
The highlight of this year’s celebration was the launching of the Roxas City
Anthem, which was made official via an ordinance authored by City Councilor
Fernando Luis Viterbo.
Another key activity was the May 10 inauguration of the Emergency Operation
Center (EOC) of the city government at Inzo Arnaldo Village.
Last May 11, residents gathered at the People’s Park for the Bugayanay sa
Baybay. The Mutya sang Roxas City was launched as part of the preparation for
the Sinadya Festival on December.
The celebration ended with a performance from rock band Parokya ni Edgar.
