Shakespeare’s Stratford-upon-Avon

By Fr. Rey Villanoy

This might be my last article in my recent travels to Great Britain. But then, this was supposed to be the highlight of my June 20-28, 2025 trip. And by special coincidence, it happened on the last day.

Well, well, this was a dream come true as I was able visit the birthplace of The Bard—the world’s greatest and most popular writer.

So much has been written about William Shakespeare. What else could I possibly add?

Yes, there’s Shakespeare’s five most quoted lines as contained in a little book I bought from a store just beside the house where he was born.

Here are the quotes:

1. To be or not to be. That is the question. (Hamlet)

2. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. (Romeo and Juliet)

3. Good night, good night! Parting is such sweet sorrow, That I shall say good night till it be morrow. (Romeo and Juliet)

4. All the world’s a stage and all men and women merely players. (As You Like It)

5. This above all: to thine own self be true. (Hamlet

Of course, there are more other quotable quotes. Let this five suffice for the moment.

P.S.  Every time I visit a place of interest, I always grab a book to be included in my vast collection—modesty aside.
