Statement of Johnny Dayang’s family

Let’s clarify something:

A case is only “cleared by arrest” when suspects are identified, charged, and arrested. If there’s no arrest yet, the case isn’t truly “cleared” unless it meets the rare conditions for “exceptional clearance” (like the suspect is dead or can’t be extradited). Filing charges alone doesn’t make it cleared.

The public has the right to ask:

Where are the suspects?

Why no arrests?

This isn’t about blaming the Kalibo PNP. It’s about accountability and transparency. If they say the case is “cleared,” they should explain how. Otherwise, the statement can mislead the victim’s family and the community.

And let’s not compare this to the Batocabe case — arrests were made there. If no one is in custody for Johnny Dayang’s murder, it’s not the same situation.

Justice doesn’t stop at paperwork. It moves when people are held accountable.
