With the upcoming 37th National Statistics Month in October, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA-Capiz) and the Capiz Provincial Government reminded the public how statistical data play an important role in framing government policy and planning for local growth and development.
While people usually use statistics in their daily lives, PSA-Capiz Information Officer Anna Bolante said statistical data help public and program planners to make more informed decisions.
Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Wilar de los Santos said that statistics is one of the cornerstones in the formulation of the annual provincial plans. During the weekly Kapihan of the Philippine Information Agency-Capiz (PIA-Capiz), de los Santos added that the data are used to organize, process and analyze information to better understand the situation and needs of Capiz.
With this year’s theme “Tuklas Pilipinas: Statistics as Beacon Towards Inclusive, Resilient, and Sustainable Tourism”, statistical data also plays a vital role in the tourism sector.
Acting Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Officer Rophine Visorio said statistical data including tourist arrivals are used as a basis for planning in transportation, accommodation, food, and other services. (PIA Capiz photo)
