The Capiz Provincial Government is finalizing its action plan to address the impact of the impending Super El Niño.
This was stipulated in the Provincial El Niño Task Force created by Governor Fredenil H. Castro in Executive Order No. 31-Series of 2026 and led by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
The action plan specifically wants to assess available water supplies and projected demand; inventory water sources and infrastructure; and identify vulnerabilities in agriculture, livestock, fisheries, and livelihoods.
The action plan will guide the Provincial El Niño Task Force in implementing, monitoring, and evaluating preparedness and response measures against prolonged dry spells, reduced rainfall, rising temperatures, and possible water scarcity.
The action plan must also outline specific public health preparedness, environmental protection, fire prevention measures, priority interventions, task of each office, implementation schedules, performance indicators, and estimated funding requirements.
The 17 local government units (LGUs) in the province comprising 16 municipalities and Roxas City must contribute inputs to the action plan.
On the other hand, the Provincial El Niño Task Force is also directed to identify and prioritize water-stressed barangays, vulnerable agricultural lands, and critical facilities.
