Tragic Christmas

It would have been a merry and happy Christmas for the Gregorios of Paniqui, Tarlac, as this year was supposed to be their first holiday in their new home built through the hard work of their patriarch, Florentino Gregorio.

Instead, they celebrated Christmas without their loved ones.

Mother Sonya and son Frank Anthony were shot in cold blood by their neighbor, Senior Master Sergeant Jonel Nuezca, who was assigned at the Parañaque City Police Crime Laboratory, on December 20.

Netizens have expressed their outrage against the policeman after he was caught on video killing the unarmed elderly mother and her son.

The video, that went viral on social media, detailed how the confrontation turned tragic.

The policeman went to the house of the victims following a noise complaint, which quickly escalated into a heated argument.

As seen in the video, the mother held her son tightly to prevent him from confronting the policeman, whose minor-daughter also joined the commotion.

The policeman asked the victims if they want him to finish them off, then he pulled the gun and shot them in the heads at point-blank range.

When the two victims fell to the ground, he shot them again, as seen in the video.

This happened in front of the policeman’s minor daughter.

Nuezca then fled from the scene, but after more than an hour, he surrendered to the authorities and turned over his issued firearm that was used in the killing.

He was charged with double murder and that the Internal Affairs Service of the Philippine National Police (PNP) is already conducting the dismissal proceedings for Nuezca.

The way PNP will handle this case will define its leadership, which was already put in a bad light.

May this murderer, a disgrace to the profession, rot in jail.

Justice should be served to the Gregorios.*
