‘Trash exchange’ project launched

ROXAS CITY – The Capiz Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (CaPENRO) recently launched its “Palit Basura Project: Trash in a Bottle Campaign” at Barangay Casanayan, Pilar.

The project allows participants to exchange plastic bottles for items such as canned sardines, one kilo of rice, 25 grams of coffee, pail, pitcher, basin, and others.

The plastic bottles must reach the weight requirements of 70 to 525 grams.

During the launch, CaPENRO also taught residents how to make eco-bricks out of plastic bottles. The said bricks are earthquake-resistant and can be used to make furniture.

CaPENRO officer Emilyn Arboleda-Depon shared the importance of the segregation of plastics, which has negative environmental effects.

Solid Waste Management focal person Valentino Piape said that the project will not only reduce waste but will also bring food to the table of the residents.*
