ROXAS CITY — Some vegetable growers received cash prizes from the Capiz provincial government for its vegetable production contest.
Florie May Castro, information officer of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA), said the provincial government has allocated P1.7 million for the project, which focuses on giving importance to vegetable production for livelihood enhancement and food security.
A total of 272 participants joined the project, with the awarding ceremony held at Capiz Villareal Stadium here on December 21.
Winning first place was Reynaldo Aldea from Pilar with P100,000; Ronilo Bael of Pontevedra at second place with P70,000; Persesol Badhay of Panitan at third place with P35,000; Eduard Venerable of Jamindan at fourth place with P20,000; and Alexander Sabolbora of Sapian at fifth place with P10,000.
Eleven participants won the consolation prize at P3,000 each.
For the city and municipal level contest, winners in each category received P30,000 for first place, P15,000 for second place, P10,000 for third place, P7,000 for fourth place, P5,000 for fifth place, P3,000 for sixth place, and P1,000 each for 10 consolation winners.
“May pera sa agrikultura,” Provincial Administrator Edwin Chinel Monares said.
Provincial Agriculturist Sylvia dela Cruz said, “Kabay pa nga ma-sustain naton ang aton vegetable production kay nabal-an naton nga makabulig gid ini sa aton tanan.”
“Kag ang aton mga premyo, aton gid ibutang sa maayo. Pwede ninyo ini madugang sa livestock, ukon ano pa nga mga improvements sang vegetable garden. Kabay nga mangin mauswagon pa gid ang aton pangabuy-an,” dela Cruz added.*
