What is June Mar Fajardo’s retirement plan?

When he retires from the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), San Miguel Beermen center June Mar Fajardo plans to live a simpler life and probably without basketball.

Pag wala na ako sa PBA, nasa bukid na ako,” Fajardo said during the 3-Point Challenge facilitated by Paolo Roxas last March 23, 2025.

But before he retires, Fajardo wants to make sure he will give his best.

Mawawala rin ako sa PBA, dapat nasabi ko sa sarili ko na naibigay ko na ang lahat para wala na akong babalikan,” Fajardo said.

Athlete development

According to the eight-time PBA Most Valuable Player, the 3-Point Challenge was a good form of exposure for young players.

Fajardo said that proper training, proper guidance, learning from mistakes, moving forward after making mistakes, and great physical conditioning are important for anyone who want to make it to the PBA.

City Councilor Fernando Luis Viterbo said that the 3-Point Challenge aims to boost the performance of local athletes and get them opportunities to make it to the big leagues.

Viterbo added that there are plans to bring more PBA coaches, collegiate league coaches and basketball team scouts in the province.

The team of Roxas searched for the best shooters in different parts of Capiz.

Jude Matthew Buenvenida of Panay emerged as champion. His townmate Kim Francis Borda was the 1st runner-up.

Justin Billones of Panitan was 2nd runner-up while Jodran Vega of Roxas City was 3rd runner-up.

Meanwhile, Roxas and his allies are aiming to develop athletes in Capiz through training and support at the grassroots level.

Viterbo added that sports development is important because it helps keep people away from vices, especially the youth.  (Photos from Paolo Roxas Facebook page)
