Women candidates win top elective posts

A NUMBER of women
candidates in Capiz won in the
various top elective positions
in the May 9 national and local
polls.
Based on the Commission
on Elections data, the newly
elected representative for the
province’s 2nd Congressional
District is Jane Castro from
Dumalag town.
She is the wife of
incumbent second district
representative and governor–
elect Fredenil Castro. She also
has served as the 2nd district’s
representative from 2010 to
2013.
Three women mayorelect that include Luzviminda Labao of Mambusao, Maria Concepcion Castro of Dumalag and reelected Katherine D. Belo of Panitan have also successfully hurdled the mayoral race in their respective localities.

Roxas City vice mayorelect Teresa Almalbis and Panay town re-elected vice mayor Arminda Bermejo also added up to women political winners aside from Sangguniang Panlalawigan newly elected members Blesilda Almalbis, Thea Faith Reyes, Trina Marie Ignacio and Neriza Joy San Felix.
A number of women were also elected as municipal councilors provincewide. (PIA Capiz)
