WV startups featured at Region 6 Slingshot

The Online Slingshot Region 6 (OSR6) unveiled to the public a number of business startups from Western Visayas, particularly from Aklan, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental.

“We saw that we have the potentials here in Region 6, that nobody thought are from the region,” Rebecca Rascon, Department of Trade and Industry-6 Regional Director, said.

Aside from bringing local startups in varied digital enterprises, Slingshot also hopes to serve as a springboard for the young businesses to scale up and find investors and funders as well as inspire other entrepreneurs to go into information technology.

Dianne Eustaquio, executive director of IdeaSpace, who was one of the online panelists, advised the startups: “not to do things with the same pace from the past.”

“We must move faster,” she added.

IdeaSpace is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting innovation, technology development, and entrepreneurship toward nation-building.

Eustaquio added that in adapting to the new business environment it is vital to have the attitude to adjust to the changing situation.

DTI-6 Assistant Regional Director Ermelinda Pollentes said OSR6 was the first online Slingshot event in the country made possible amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The activity, held December 7 to 8, was designed to deliver its core theme “Digital Revolution” and to gather technical communities, startups, MSME creative teams, and other stakeholders to plan and strategize toward strengthening innovation and the business environment in Region 6. It was one of the highlights of the celebration of Innovation Week.* (PIA-6)
