Tapaz’s single-use plastic ordinance OK’d

ROXAS CITY – The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) recently upheld the single-use plastic ordinance of Tapaz, Capiz.

Per Ara si Mitang Magbanua Facebook page, SP said that it saw the excessive use of plastic in the municipality.

The ordinance is called “Providing the Mechanism for the Management of the Use of Single-Use Plastics and for its Recovery and Recycling, and Encouraging the Use of Reusable Items and Other Environmentally Friendly Materials as Alternatives.

”According to the page, the excessive use has resulted in littering which now affects the community.

Validating the ordinance would encourage the public to use reusable bags or containers instead of single-use plastics, it said.

Plastics clog waterways and cause choking and digestion hazards for animals that consume it.

The approval of the ordinance was led by the Environment and Natural Resources committee headed by Board Member Matt Hachuela.
